I first photographed Vanessa and Jan-Ivan, about two years ago, I think, when Jan-Ivan formed part of the first group of learners to officially end school at the end of their Grade 11 year. It was a very hot and very sunny day. We were at the end of a dry spell and the field was all sorts of yellows and browns. Jan-Ivan managed to outshine the dryness around him and looked devilishly handsome with Vanessa by his side. 

Two years later and this high school love is still going strong. This time around Vanessa was in the spotlight. Her royal blue dress complimented her dark hair and olive skin perfectly and when school friend Samira brought their ice-blue vehicle of choice, both Jan-Ivan and Vanessa looked ready for Holywood. 

Soft-spoken and incredibly well-mannered, this couple is an absolute joy to photograph. I salute you as parents – well done. Jan-Ivan, Vanessa – from here on staying together will become an even bigger challenge. But nothing will give me greater joy than seeing (or even photographing!) your wedding photos one day – knowing that this relationship was built on solid rock.
